The SCAA, Specialty Coffee Association of America has certified Q-graders. Q-graders are permitted to evaluate Arabica beans on a 0-100 point scale system. The coffee is graded on fragrance/aroma, flavor, acidity, body, aftertaste, sweetness & much more. Scores 80 or above are considered specialty grade coffee. Most commercial coffee, such as Maxwell House, are graded between 74-76. Lava Mountain Coffee is graded consistently at about 86-87 points.
Lava Mountain Coffee is made of beans that are grown in volcanic ash enriched soil at 5,025 feet above seal level. It is a single origin coffee and naturally sweet! Our beans are harvested at just the right time, imported, and craft roasted to deliver the richest cup of coffee!
The green beans are directly imported from Colombia and delivered to our Detroit warehouse. This allows us to bring in a very high quality bean at a very competitive price. All imported beans are roasted in small batches to ensure fresh beans and customer satisfaction. Depending on temperature, roasting time frames, and spinning time in the roaster, each bean is perfectly roasted to it’s own profile. The roasting process allows us to separate the average coffee beans from the extraordinary.
Our chocolates are “Made Fresh on Premises” using a tried and true three-generation European style family recipe that calls for the highest quality ingredients and attention to design detail.
The “Made Fresh on Premises” concept means that chocolate items do not come pre-packaged from Headquarters, rather that items are prepared and dipped at each individual retail location allowing our franchise owners the flexibility to be creative and customize our fresh products to the customer’s request.
Great chocolate is always appreciated.
We make it easy for you to show appreciation to your customers and employees.

Host your own Chocolate Party at Birmingham Chocolate. Enjoy a private, interactive chocolate party in a European style chocolateria where you make chocolate, learn about chocolate and of course… eat chocolate! All you have to do is show up, enjoy time with friends or business associates, and leave the cleanup to someone else. Sweet!
Our two hour hands-on chocolate parties are perfect for starting off a bachelorette evening, wedding and baby showers, entertaining customers, team building, birthday parties, anniversary parties and charity fund raising events – or just enjoying the company of good friends. We will start off with a toast using chocolate champagne glasses. This evening of decadence is “behind the retail counter” where you can try your own hand at the Old World art of hand-dipping truffle centers. You will create your own chocolate bar choosing the type of chocolate and the inclusions. Learn a little (or a lot) about chocolate through a series of tastings – and we may test your tasting to see how well you have enjoyed great chocolate. You will fill a box with your own selections from the display cases. You will leave with all the chocolates that you have made and selected – but only after having enjoyed an evening of great chocolate and friendships.
You may bring wine, sodas, champagne, bottled water, etc to drink. We will provide sparkling grape juices and make espresso and hot chocolate drinks on request. In season, sample our Italian gelato. You may provide hors d’oeuvres or we can arrange for those at additional cost. Pricing starts at $30 per person, there is a $250 minimum. We can accommodate up to 35 adults.
There is a $100 deposit to secure a date. The deposit is refundable until one week before the event. The balance due is based on the actual number of participants.
The parties are generally week nights at from 6 to 8, once the shop is closed.
We do not host children’s birthday parties.
The format for our Chocolate Parties is flexible. Basically, we provide the chocolate and you bring the sweet tooth.
Call to discuss how we can personalize your chocolate party.
We support over 100 arts and social service nonprofit organizations in our community each year with Gift Certificate Donation Boxes that are perfect for raffles and silent auctions. The winner brings the box to the store and builds their own box. The donation box must be a personal request – we do not respond to mass mail/email requests for donations. The donation box must be picked up – we do not ship or deliver. On a sponsored basis, we can host Chocolate Party Fund Raisers for up to 35 adults.
Schakolad (pronounced shaq-oh-LAD) – a combination of “Schaked” and “Chocolate” – is a name associated with three generations of chocolate making. Baruch Schaked, co-founder of Schakolad, has been a chocolate maker since 1969. He began his career as a chocolatier in Argentina while working for his father-in-law, Gustavo Bar, who was the owner of one of South America`s largest chocolate factories.
Mr. Schaked traveled extensively throughout Europe to participate in courses and seminars at prestigious schools where he mastered the art of chocolate making. His education and passion paid off in the form of numerous first place awards for his scrumptious, handmade truffles at the world renowned Fontainebleau Chocolate Festival.
And, that is just the beginning of the story.
The Schaked`s chocolate adventure really got started when Baruch Schaked announced that he was selling his chocolate shop in South Florida in order to retire. His son, Edgar, determined to keep the family`s passion alive, scrapped his engineering career to continue the family legacy. In 1995, the first Schakolad Chocolate Factory opened in Winter Park, Florida. In 1999, Schakolad began franchising their unique system, creating national and international awareness as the producers of fine quality chocolates using only the highest quality ingredients.
Although recognition is spreading, Schakolad is determined to stay true to the nostalgia and personal service of the corner family owned chocolateria by making their chocolates fresh, on premises, at each location.
Many Schakolad Chocolate Factory stores manufacture their chocolate under their local Kosher Supervision. To order online Schakolad Kosher chocolates from our website, select “Yes” in the Kosher Option under the Delivery Address Type in any of the products offered. When you click on the “Add To Cart” button, a list of Schakolad stores that create their handmade chocolates under their local Kosher Supervision will appear. Some stores offer Parve – Vegan chocolate and Cholov Yisroel chocolates. Select the store of your choice or the closest to the shipping address and the order will be sent from the store you chose.
The word kosher is a translation of the Hebrew word meaning “fit” or “proper.” It refers to foods that meet the dietary requirements of Jewish Law. Whether a product is kosher depends on the source of the ingredients and the status of the equipment it is produced on. Kosher certification is the guarantee that the food meets kosher requirements. The process of certification does not involve “blessing” the food; rather, it involves examining the ingredients used to make the food, scrutinizing the process by which the food is prepared, and periodically inspecting the processing facilities to make sure that kosher standards are maintained.
Corner Brewery may be the distribution headquarters of the Arbor Brewing Company family, but we’re also an inviting place to hang out. Corner is casual. Order your food at the bar and we’ll buzz you when it’s ready. While you’re waiting, enjoy one of our beers, a crisp cider, or a glass of Michigan wine.
We encourage you to take advantage of the free wifi, dartboards, board games, and numerous events hosted at Corner. During the warmer months we open up our beer garden and when it’s chilly you can sit by our cozy fireplace. While we are a 21 and up establishment, we welcome children accompanied by a parent until 9:00 PM.
We are nearing completion on a $250,000 Green Brewery Project which includes solar-thermal, photovoltaic, and geothermal technologies along with other improvements like new windows and awnings and energy-efficient chiller equipment. The system provides almost all of Corner Brewery’s hot water needs and to the best of our knowledge will be the largest-capacity solar installation of any craft brewery East of Colorado.
According to Owner Rene Greff the project, which took over two years to complete, was worth every bit of effort that went into it. “It feels really good to know that we were able to make changes that are as good for the environment as they are for the bottom line. We couldn’t have done it without the expertise and assistance we received from our many partners and we hope to be able to assist other small businesses interested in improving their energy efficiency.”
We are three sisters that are crazy about cupcakes and wanted to share them with the world. All of the cupcakes we make are vegan so they are even better for you and the environment because they are cholesterol free, cruelty free, and delicious. We take pride in never using packaged cake mixes or frostings, they are all made from scratch, and we love to use all organic ingredients.
Sweet Magnolias Vegan Cupcakes was born April 2011. It all started when the 3 of us, Mae, Melissa, and Mallory were craving some yummy cupcakes, but since we were all vegan we couldn’t just run to local bakery to pick some up, so…what did we do? We created our own of course! Our first cupcake was the Double Chocolate Ganache Me! Now just because our cupcakes are vegan, that does not mean they taste like saw dust, that just means that they are even better than non-vegan cupcakes, seriously! You will not be able to eat just one! Folks are always surprised to know that they are eating a completely egg-free and dairy-free cupcake. We take pride in never using packaged cake mixes or frostings, they are all made from scratch, and we love to use all organic ingredients. Our mission…”Baking You Happy and Changing the World One Sweet Step at a Time!”.

Valentine Vodka is a Gold Medal winning ultra premium vodka, handcrafted 100% in Michigan using all local ingredients and suppliers.
We use all natural flavors to create this delightful blend of elderflower with a hint of grapefruit. High fructose corn syrup? Not a chance. We use 100% Michigan Beet sugar to lightly sweeten this delicious flavor.
In the 1920’s, Detroit roared like no place else. Bootleggers, Gangsters, Flappers and Feds converged on the city as it supplied 75% of the illicit liquor that poured into America during Prohibition. Unprecedented revelry could be found with a secret knock at any of the 25,000 blind pigs and speakeasies. Even Mayor John Smith thumbed his nose at the bluenosers and was once busted at a Mack Avenue juice joint.
Inspired by this rebellious swagger, Valentine Vodka Founder and Master Distiller Rifino Valentine decided to take a stand against mass-produced vodkas by using old world techniques and equipment to create a hand-distilled vodka with a proprietary multi-grain blend. This defiant approach has won awards at international competitions for its special taste and smooth drinkability.
A Michigan native who gave up a career on Wall Street to craft the perfect dirty martini, Valentine uses locally-sourced ingredients and partners with Michigan companies like McClure’s Pickles (Try a Motor City Mary) , B. Nektar Meadery and Grocer’s Daughter Chocolates. Rifino also crafts Detroit’s Ghost Vodka.
